America’s Haunted City – Recent Vacation to Savannah, Georgia and a visit to the Bonaventure Cemetery
My wife and I just returned from a long weekend vacation in Savannah, GA, We have spent the night in the City a few times on our way to Florida, but I have never had the opportunity to really experience Savannah, especially as a psychic medium. While it is considered to be one of the most haunted cities in America, I must say, I was a bit disappointed.
Savannah History
Looking at the history of the area and Savannah, I can understand why so many spirits still linger in older homes and businesses in the city. Since it’s founding in 1733, Savannah has experienced numerous tragedies:
• Home to cutthroat pirates
• Site of the deadliest battle during the American Revolution (Siege of Savannah)
• Was an active slave trading port
• Captured by General Sherman during the Civil War
• Ravaged and destroyed by fires in 1796 and 1820
• Experienced a massive yellow fever outbreak that took the lives of 10% of the population (1820)
• Numerous hurricanes and weather events
Most often, paranormal activities are found in locations which the residents have experienced heavy negative emotions. Walking around Savannah, I could feel the overwhelming sense of sadness and a sense of defeat in the air. A sense of “what is next?”.
Bonaventure Cemetery Visit
We had the opportunity to visit the famous Bonaventure Cemetery during our trip. We attended a fascinating historical tour of the cemetery which directed us to several famous interments where our guide discussed their historical significance to Savannah. While there, I witnessed several spirits lingering around the cemetery, on in particular uniquely grabbed my attention. She was different than the others.
She was a younger woman, in her twenties, from long ago. Based on her long blue and white laced dress, I would believe she lived around 1750-1800. It was the way she walked through the gravesites was what captivated me the most. A simple stride, completely at peace as if this parade was a normal daily ritual. She completely ignored the many visitors in the cemetery. Other spirits held a deep sense of sadness, depression and the desire for isolation. No one wanted to talk to me. There was a strong sense of anxiety and a bit of annoyance throughout the cemetery. The spirits were restless due to the number of visitors to the Bonaventure. The varying amounts of energies arriving each day, the number of visitors who are looking to “capture a ghost” rather than acknowledging and respecting their resting places seems to have brought a very negative feeling to the area. A reminder for all, when visiting any cemetery, please be respectful of the gravesites. While I believe cemeteries are truly for the living, they are a place where the dead convene.
Our trip to Bonaventure Cemetery was a much different experience for me versus my tour of the St. Philip’s Graveyard in Charleston, SC. The spirits there were much more curious and open to communication. These pictures were taken in the Graveyard and shows several balls of energy. Looks like a very popular place for the other side!
