Clairvoyance Explained: What Clear Seeing Really Feels Like

What is clairvoyance, and what does it actually feel like?
Many people hear the word clairvoyance and imagine someone seeing ghosts standing in the room.
That certainly makes for dramatic television.
But in my experience as a practicing psychic medium and rescue medium, clairvoyance is usually much quieter than that.
Most people who experience clairvoyance don’t suddenly see full-bodied spirits.
Instead, they receive brief mental images, symbols, colors, faces, or scenes that seem to appear out of nowhere.
These impressions often arrive unexpectedly, disappear just as quickly, and leave people wondering:
“Did I imagine that?”
Let’s explore what clairvoyance really is, how it differs from imagination, and why more people may experience it than they realize.
What Is Clairvoyance?
Clairvoyance comes from the French words meaning clear seeing.
It is one of several intuitive abilities often referred to as the “clairs.”
Rather than seeing with your physical eyes, clairvoyance often feels like seeing with your mind’s eye.
The information may arrive as:
- symbols
- colors
- faces
- places
- memories
- brief scenes
- flashes of light
Most impressions last only seconds.
What Does Clairvoyance Feel Like?
This is where people become confused.
Many expect clairvoyance to feel dramatic.
Instead, it often feels incredibly ordinary.
You might suddenly picture:
your grandmother’s kitchen…
a red bicycle…
a white rose…
a beach…
a military uniform…
Then wonder why that image appeared.
One thing that surprises many people is that clairvoyance doesn’t look the same for everyone. Some people physically see an image before them. Others, like me, receive it through the mind’s eye, often called the third eye. It may be a single picture, a symbol, or an entire scene playing out like a movie. In my experience, those scenes are often incredibly clear. The only real difference is whether you perceive them with your physical eyes or within your mind.
Sometimes the image later makes perfect sense.
Sometimes it doesn’t.
Learning discernment takes time.
Clairvoyance vs Imagination
This is probably the question I’m asked most.
How do I know I didn’t just make it up?
While no single experience proves something is clairvoyant, many people notice a few common differences.
Imagination usually develops because we intentionally create a picture in our minds.
Clairvoyant impressions often arrive unexpectedly.
They may appear complete, disappear quickly, and carry a feeling that they came from somewhere beyond deliberate thought.
For me, clairvoyance usually doesn’t feel like I’m trying to see something. Quite the opposite. The image pops into my mind without warning. I may be listening to someone speak when suddenly a picture, symbol, or even an entire scene appears as clearly as if someone pressed “play” on a movie. It often arrives fully formed, without any effort on my part, and may disappear just as quickly as it came.
That doesn’t mean every image is spiritual.
Healthy discernment is always important.
Not every thought, dream, or coincidence carries deeper meaning.
Signs You May Be Clairvoyant
Some common experiences include:
- Vivid dreams that later become meaningful.
- Mental pictures appearing during meditation or prayer.
- Seeing symbols that later connect to someone you know.
- Brief visual impressions while speaking with another person.
- Remembering places you’ve never visited.
- Occasionally seeing flashes of light or movement from the corner of your eye.
Experiencing one or more of these does not automatically mean someone is clairvoyant.
They are simply experiences many people describe.
Can Anyone Develop Clairvoyance?
I believe intuition exists in everyone.
Some people naturally receive information visually.
Others experience it through feelings, inner knowing, sounds, or physical sensations.
Just as some people naturally excel at music while others excel at mathematics, intuitive abilities seem to express themselves differently in different people.
The goal should never be forcing clairvoyance.
Instead, it is learning to notice what already comes naturally.
Practicing Safely
If you want to explore clairvoyance, I encourage you to begin slowly.
Spend quiet time in meditation.
Keep a journal.
Write down impressions without immediately judging them.
Remain grounded.
Protect your energy.
Avoid becoming obsessed with finding signs everywhere.
Healthy intuition is balanced, patient, and humble.
As you explore clairvoyance, remember that staying grounded is just as important as developing your intuition. Final Thoughts
Clairvoyance isn’t about seeing spectacular visions.
It’s about becoming aware of impressions that often arrive quietly, unexpectedly, and with remarkable clarity.
Whether those impressions come as a single symbol or an entire scene unfolding in the mind’s eye, I’ve learned that the most important part isn’t simply seeing them.
It’s understanding what they’re trying to teach us.
Because every genuine spiritual gift should ultimately help us become more compassionate, more discerning, and more loving toward others.
